well, i got my first companion disk for LWPro the other
day-i ordered #4, the surfaces issue.
Part of the fun of getting these disks (for me anyways :-)
is exploring the stuff on it, so i won't spoil
it for you by telling you everything :-)
The disk #4 has scene, image, surface, and object files.
Some of the stuff is similar what you see in Issue #4,
but not all. The nice sunset on the cover for example,
is included, and is a great scene to study light, clouds,
etc...The included "cloud object" is similar to
the technique described by Christian Aubert in
a past Amazing Computing (he wrote both articles)
The best thing on this disk is the surface directory-
for me, one of the best ways to learn is by studying
how others create-and you get a whole bunch of
surfaces to play with ! Some include image maps too.
i really liked "Unobtainium", a metallic surface,
and "steam" which probably needs an animation to
truly look awesome.
Anyways, email me if you want more details,
i highly recommend the disk (at least #4 :-))
and only 5 bucks !
